Day Excursions

We will have a day of leisure on Thursday, July 5, 2018. Please choose from one of four excursions on a first-come, first serve basis. Please sign up yourself and your entire party so we can adequately account for buses and meals. If you do not sign up, we will have to accommodate you in whatever options are available. 

Option 1: Caves of Almadenes Exploration

This will be a guided tour exploring the Cave of El Puerto with kayaking through the river. The cave exploration route is about 800m and lasts about 1 hour.  Following the Cave of El Puerto, we will descend the Canyon of Almadenes, which takes appoximiately 1.5 hours and we will stop to visit cave paintings as well. 

 

Essential gear: Bring cool, comfortable clothing (you may get wet), swimsuit, camera and binoculars to see the birds.

Meals: Packed lunch included.

Capacity: 30-40 people, children (ages 7 and above) welcome


Option 2: Canoeing in Castril

This tour will include a bus ride to Castril National Park, about 40km from the Rosales Campus. The day will be spent at Embalse Bolera, a popular lake for canoeing, swimming and picnicking. 

Essential gear: Bring cool, comfortable clothing (you may get wet), swimsuit, sunscreen, change of clothes.

Meals: Packed lunch included.

Capacity: 30-40 people, children (ages 4 and above) welcome


Option 3: Relaxing in Granada

Enjoy a free day in Granada to explore at your leisure. Granada has many opportunities for shopping, sight-seeing and dining. This will not be a trip dedicated to visiting The Alhambra. If you would like to visit The Alhambra, please purchase tickets online in advance. In our experience, same-day tickets are typically unavailable. You will be responsible for travel to/from the drop off site and The Alhambra. Bus will leave Rosales at 9 a.m. and drop off in the city center. Pick up from the city center at 6:00 p.m.

Essential gear: Bring cool, comfortable clothing, sunscreen, insect repellant and sunglasses. Wear comfortable shoes for walking.

Meals: Not included.

Option 4: Ecosystem Restoration Camps  

This day trip will be led by Rhamis Kent in collaboration with the Ecosystem Restoration Camps Foundation, a grassroots non-profit that educates and trains people for ecosystem restoration around the world. The group will spend the day at the foundations first site in the Altiplano of Spain, based on 12.5 acres of Andalusian land, engaging the work and the people behind it. Learn more.

This project comprises of a diverse group of volunteers under the leadership of field experts focused on developing research, methods and strategies to address land degradation and desertification.

Essential gear: Bring cool, comfortable clothing, sunscreen, insect repellant and sunglasses. Wear comfortable shoes for working and walking.
